Digoxin is a cardiac glycoside derived from the leaves of St. John's wort. This drug has been used in medicine for over 200 years. In modern medical practice, digoxin is prescribed for congestive heart failure, supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, and atrial flutter. It exerts a positive inotropic effect on the heart muscle (increasing the strength of contraction), reduces the activity of the sinoatrial node, slows down impulse conduction, and decreases the heart rate.

  • Biomaterial for the study: venous blood.
  • Do not consume any food for 4 hours before the test.
  • Periodically during treatment with digoxin;
  • In the event of signs of digoxin toxicity (nausea, vomiting, dizziness, changes in mental status, cardiac arrhythmias, blurred vision, and the illusion of a yellow or green halo around objects);
  • When the therapeutic effectiveness of digoxin is insufficient.

The results of the analysis are evaluated by the treating physician, taking into account the dosage of the medication, the method of administration, the patient's age, any concomitant pathologies, and the individual's tolerance to the medication.
