  • Tonic-clonic status epilepticus.
  • Prevention and treatment of seizures during or after neurosurgery and/or severe traumatic brain injury (not conclusively proven).
  • Treatment of migraine, trigeminal neuralgia, and psychosis.
  • Management of arrhythmias caused by digitalis glycoside toxicity.

Contraindications:

  • Should not be used to treat seizures caused by tricyclic antidepressants, as it may enhance cardiotoxic effects.
  • Known hypersensitivity to phenytoin or other hydantoins.
  • Patients with sinus bradycardia, sinoatrial block, second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, or Adams-Stokes syndrome due to phenytoin's effect on ventricular automaticity.
  • The test can be taken 3-4 hours after a meal.
  • Consult your doctor regarding the temporary discontinuation of the medication.
  • Determination of the drug's toxicity level.
  • Monitoring the drug concentration in the blood.
