Haloperidol is an antipsychotic or neuroleptic drug. Chemically, it belongs to the butyrophenone class. It was first discovered in 1958 by Paul Janssen and is classified as a typical antipsychotic. For this reason, it is used to treat the positive symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations, delusions, or agitation.
Haloperidol suppresses the central nervous system, producing a sedative effect. Due to this property, it is also used to treat panic and anxiety.
Biological material for analysis: venous blood.
The test results are evaluated by the treating physician, taking into account the dosage of the drug, the method of administration, the patient's age, comorbid conditions, and individual drug tolerance.
