What is Mammography?

What is mammography? In answer to this question, we can say that mammography is a special X-ray examination method used to examine the mammary glands and mainly plays an important role in the early diagnosis of breast diseases.

Mammography uses low-dose X-rays to obtain detailed images of the internal structure of the breast. It is considered one of the most reliable methods for the early detection of breast cancer. Through mammography, cysts, tumors, microcalcifications, and other pathological changes in breast tissue can be identified at an early stage.

During the procedure, the breast is gently compressed between two plates. This helps to obtain clearer images and reduces the dose of radiation exposure. The procedure is quick and usually does not cause significant pain, although mild discomfort may occur in some cases.

The mammography device captures images of the breasts from different angles, and the obtained images are transferred to a digital system for evaluation. Regular mammography screening is recommended especially for women over the age of 40 and individuals in high-risk groups.
