Molybdenum is a trace element essential for the body's normal functioning. Its primary biochemical role is to accelerate the oxidation of purine nitrogenous bases through xanthine oxidase. Additionally, molybdenum is necessary for the activity of other enzymes, such as aldehyde oxidase and sulfite oxidase.
In the blood, molybdenum binds to alpha-2-macroglobulin and the erythrocyte spectrum, contributing to the osmotic stability of red blood cell membranes. Furthermore, molybdenum ions help prevent tooth decay.
