Vitamin Check-up Packages

Why is this Check-up Package Important?

During various pathological processes in the thyroid gland, metabolic activity in the body can become disrupted. These disturbances are often reflected as deficiencies in different vitamins and minerals. For this reason, comprehensive testing helps identify the most common nutrient deficiencies associated with impaired thyroid function.

What is included in the Check-up Package:

  • Iodine (I) in urine
  • Magnesium (Mg)
  • Zinc (Zn)
  • Vitamin B12
  • Vitamin B6

Iodine - Iodine is a key component of thyroid hormones. When iodine deficiency occurs, the thyroid gland begins to enlarge. If hormone synthesis remains unaffected during this stage, the condition is referred to as endemic goiter.

Magnesium - In cases of hyperthyroidism, magnesium levels in the blood are typically reduced. Conversely, in situations where thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) is elevated, such as in hypothyroidism, magnesium levels are often increased.

Condition

Magnesium Change

Explanation

Hyperthyroidism

Decreased magnesium

Excess production of thyroid hormones accelerates metabolism, leading to faster depletion of magnesium levels.

Hypothyroidism (↑ TSH)

Increased magnesium

When TSH levels are elevated (indicating reduced thyroid function), metabolic activity slows down, which can lead to magnesium accumulation in the blood.

Zinc - Zinc can reduce the synthesis of thyroid hormones, which may contribute to the development of hypothyroidism. On the other hand, thyroid hormones are also involved in zinc metabolism; therefore, hypothyroidism itself can lead to zinc deficiency.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) - Vitamin B6 stimulates the synthesis of TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone). Its deficiency may reduce TSH production at the hypothalamic level, potentially leading to hypothyroidism. Interestingly, excessive intake of vitamin B6 may have the opposite effect, reducing TSH levels.

Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin) - Vitamin B12 is particularly important for thyroid function. It facilitates the transport of iodine to thyroid tissue, thereby playing a “carrier” role in hormone synthesis.
